NUR 212 Mental Health Nursing

This course focuses on the care of patientsacross the lifespan experiencing cognitive,mental and behavioral disorders. Emphasis isplaced on management of patients facing emotionaland psychological stressors as well as promotingand maintaining the mental health of individualsand families. Concepts of crisis intervention,therapeutic communication, anger management, andcoping skills are integrated throughout thecourse. The community as a site for care andsupport services is addressed. Clinicalexperiences provide the student an opportunity toapply theoretical concepts and implement safepatient care to patients in selected mentalhealth settings. Prerequisite: NUR 201. (5 sem. hrs. - 3 hours of didactic (lecture) and 8 hours of clinical per week)
