Art and Design, Bachelor of Arts

Students majoring in the Art and Design program learn to develop an artistic voice through the creation of original works of art and design. Students develop visual sensitivity, perception and an understanding of the impact of visual communication and expression on artists, designers, and the viewing public.

The Art and Design program is made up of three concentrations: Art, Graphic Design, and Web Design. In Art, students pursue artistic voice through the study of works and intentions of major artists/designers and movements of the past and present, in both Western and non-Western worlds. Graphic Design students explore intention, design, and build visual communication materials. Web Design students explore intention, design, and build websites from project research to the design phase through the finished product.

The program benefits from several campus resources, including the Bogigian Gallery, Cooley Gallery, and the Barron Blewett Hunnicutt Classics Gallery. An artist-in-residence program helps to expose students to visual and performing artists, and a competitive biennial travel scholarship to Italy is available.

Students may opt to complete a dual concentration in Art and Design. In that situation, students need only complete one internship and one senior seminar course.
