Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science in exercise science degree at Wilson College prepares you with the knowledge and skills  to be successful in a variety of health-related graduate and professional programs, or to work in the health and fitness industry. Our program has been designed to address the knowledge, skills and abilities recommended by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and provide you with a strong science-based education.  Human anatomy and physiology, care and prevention of injuries, exercise testing and prescription, exercise physiology and kinesiology are key features of our curriculum.  You will be able to further develop and apply your knowledge through experiential learning opportunities in and out of the classroom, as well as during an internship.  A bachelor's degree in exercise science can serve as a springboard for graduate work in exercise physiology, athletic training, physical therapy, chiropractic or occupational therapy.

Minors attractive to students majoring in exercise science include biology, athletic coaching, sport management, medical Spanish, business and psychology.

Students must complete MAT 110 Pre-Calculus or its equivalent prior to taking Physics I.  The prerequisite to MAT 110 is MAT 103 College Algebra. 

Student wishing to pursue acceptance into graduate programs may be required to take additional courses depending on a particular institution's admission requirements.  

Please note: Students planning to sit for the ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Group Exercise Instructor, and/or Certified Exercise Physiologist examinations are encouraged to do so during their senior year or upon graduation depending on ACSM eligibility requirements.  Students who graduate with an exercise science degree and are interested in the ACSM Clinical Exercise Specialist certification will need to accrue at least 500 hours of experience in a clinical exercise setting before taking the exam.
